To kick off our little party, I’d like to welcome our very first guest, LINDSAY KLUG.

Lindsay brings us a fabulous horror piece that features just a little bit of romance. Let’s hear what she has to say about By Blood, Bound.

SHR: What makes this particular book your favorite?

LK: I love Mel’s voice. She’s so quirky, but too much happens to her in a short time, and she shows how strong she actually is.

SHR: Who published it? When?

LK: This was published by Rebel Ink Press last year.

SHR: Tell us a little about what you went through to get it published.

LK: I had this story written in full, in four versions, for about three years. I finally hit it right with the last version, and submitted to about forty different agents and publishers. One picked it up.

SHR: On writing in general: What’s the hardest part for you? Why?

LK: The hardest part of writing for me is trying to force my way through without editing. I cannot do it. If the scene isn’t working, I scrap the whole chapter and start over.

SHR: Unrelated: What’s your favorite color?

LK: My favorite color is blue.

ABOUT BY BLOOD, BOUND:

GENRE:

Horror, Slight Romance

BLURB:

Mel McIntyre thought she was all set in this life. She had a fabulous job, a cute apartment and a cat. But when her sister dies and her last living relative, her nephew Joey, disappears, Mel finds everything she knows turned upside down.

Unwillingly thrown into a world she never thought existed thanks to an almost fatal mistake made by Joey, Mel finds herself suddenly involved with a vampire named Levi. And she quickly discovers this relationship isn’t the good thing she thought it to be.

As Mel becomes a shell of her former self, can she find the strength to battle back? Or will she let the vampires win?

EXCERPT:

The whole clearing burst into uproarious laughter. I stood there with my eyebrows raised and eyes wide. Levi strolled back up to me. “No, woman, I don’t eat lasagna. What’s your name?”

“Everybody calls me Mel.” I flashed a greeting smile at him and said, “Nice to meet you.”

Levi cocked an eyebrow. “Are you even a little scared, Mel?” My name rolled off his tongue like liquid velvet.

I laughed nervously. “Oh, I’m terrified. I’ve probably peed myself, but I’m too scared to care.”

Well, you would not believe me if I told you what happened next. I don’t even know if I should bother telling you, because you’re going to be shouting, “What the hell!” I know this because it’s exactly what I shouted.

This man laughed a little and leaned down to my eye level. His mouth slowly opened and out from his jaw shot fangs. Are you ready? Here was my reaction: “WHAT THE FUCK! That’s impossible!”

I think God himself could have swooped down from Heaven and fucked me and I would have been less skeptical. In fact, God and Satan could have met me there and said, “Hey, let’s have a wild threesome,” and I would be more inclined to believe it than this guy has fangs.

In fact, I could have been in one of those gang bang flicks with God, Satan, Elvis, aliens, and Big Foot while riding the Loch Ness monster and I could have swallowed it a little bit easier.

No pun intended.

But there this hot guy was, standing right in front of me with fucking fangs. They dropped from his gums. His incisors grew into fangs. Do you get it? Fangs. He smiled at my reaction for a totally gruesome effect. I imagine if Jeffrey Dahmer had smiled at you like that you would have known you’d be on the BBQ instead of enjoying one of those “super terrific” hamburgers he promised you.

Then Levi leaned into my vicinity and I held my breath. Fangs, people. He used one of those giant incisors to pierce my neck a little and I gasped from the prick of pain as I felt the trickle of warm blood run down into my cleavage.
