Welcome back, my lovelies. Next on our agenda is an eerie bit of poetry from my partner in crime, Alexandra Christian. I was hoping I’d get her to give me a sneak peak of one of her newest contracts, but sadly she’s holding out on me. Oh, well… maybe later. But until then, enjoy the taste of a “Cold Kiss”.

Cold Kiss

by Alexandra Christian

Do we sleep alone, still in the darkness,

Or are the shadows our gentle lovers?

I arrive at our marriage bed,

Awaiting the harbinger of your arrival.

No sparrows’ song for lovers long dead

Barely a whisper of air between us

Cool mist boils around bare feet

Traveling along the still ground I see your cairn.

Just a pinprick to call out your name,

A fall of sparkling rubies look like flame against the marble.

Warmth that leaks down between the cool porcelain breasts

Drawing a map to that seat of earthy pleasure.

I lie on the unyielding  stone,

Shallow breath pluming from between crimson lips.

“I’m ready,” I whisper,

My words falling weakly to the ground like autumn leaves.

You come upon my body like a fever,

Your cold kiss steals my soul, yet I give it freely.

Skeletal fingers play along the delicate ribs

Alighting on the quicksilver bloodflower.

Hollow sockets meet shallow reflecting pools of blue,

Gazing skyward, eyes pleading for completion.

A phantom pulse deep in my chest, drawing you near.

“Take my heart.  It’s always been yours.”

Shadows fall, a veil of darkness drowning the light.

My heart, still wet with sticky warmth, lies still in your hand.

At last we are one, eternal lovers

In Death.
