On the iPod:  I’m Not Calling You a Liar – Florence + The Machine

~+~

One day I’ll get the hang of this.

As most of you know (all two of you that read this thing), I have multiple personalities.  Writing personalities, that is.  The voices in my head are not all my own – those are the voices of my victims.  My other personality writes romance.  In particular, she writes paranormal romance of the ultra-steamy quality.  She likes witches and vampires and things that go bump in the night.

And to be perfectly honest, so do I.

You guys know me.  You know that I’ve been reading Stephen King, Anne Rice, Clive Barker, and John Saul since I was old enough to read big-people books.  I love horror movies.  Halloween is my favorite holiday.  It really isn’t any wonder I gravitate toward horror with my own writing, is it?

The scary stories found in these books and movies are old friends.  I know them all well.  To this very day, my favorite book is still Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

I have two projects in the works right now for the real me – one of which is a steampunk-style horror story with no title that’s turning into something totally unexpected.  I know the girl likes to kill people, but I never imagined some of her methods.

Actually, I did, didn’t I?  I created her, so it’s all a product of my warped imagination.

The other, and probably one of my favorite things I’ve written lately, is called Rock N’ Roll Angel.  It’s about a scorned groupie that gets revenge on her rock star idol.  If I had to pick a genre, I’d call it Splatterpunk.

What is Splatterpunk, you ask?

Wikipedia explains it as “a movement within horror fiction distinguished by its graphic, often gory, depiction of violence and ‘hyperintensive horror with no limits.’It is regarded as a revolt against the ‘traditional, meekly suggestive horror story’.”  The full explanation can be found by clicking this sentence.

This particular story is a little more limitless than some I’ve read.  It could be further classified as erotic horror.  It’s pretty gory.  It’s out there.  And I’m really hoping that the publisher-friend of mine that is offering to look it over will accept it.  She thinks she’s more warped than me.

HA.

Oh, Kharisma, darling… you do have so much to learn.

A coworker friend asked about some of my stuff the other day.  She laughed at me, but deep down I think she’s a little afraid of what she learned.  The gist of what I told her is this:

1. My vampires eat people.  No, they do not f-ing sparkle.

2. I’m not afraid to replace vital organs with mechanical ones.

3. The bloodier the better.

4. If a person pisses me off, he or she will likely find herself massacred in creative ways in one of my books.

5. No, I don’t care who thinks I’m nuts.  I’m perfectly well-adjusted, thank you very much.

My family will tell you that I was an odd child.  Still am, if you must know.  But it takes a special breed to create the worlds and scenarios that come naturally to me.  While I would never hurt a person in real life (yeah, for the creepy horror writer, I really am sort of a bleeding heart, too), my overactive imagination can think of a thousand ways to exact revenge.

In short:  don’t make me angry, or you’ll end up in one of my stories.
