It’s Day Three of our little Bash, and hanging out with me is my friend KHARISMA RHAYNE. She’s talking about her historical paranormal series Living Deadly. The first book, OH THE PAIN is out now through Rebel Ink Press.

SHR: What makes this particular book your favorite?

KR: He was my first. Isn’t your first always special? I really didn’t want to share Xander with everyone.

SHR: Who published it? When?

KR: Rebel Ink published it in November 2011

SHR: Tell us a little about what you went through to get it published.

KR: Honestly…it wasn’t at all like I expected. I thought I’d get rejection after rejection so I subbed it to 6 places…all 6 said yes. ☺

SHR: On writing in general: What’s the hardest part for you? Why?

KR: Finishing a story has to be the most difficult. Every time I start moving forward with one book, another book and idea races into my mind and side tracks me. I have enough WIPs to keep me writing till I reach the age of 500. The other difficult part is saying goodbye to my characters. I hate ending a series or removing a character I loved from one.

SHR: Unrelated: What’s your favorite color?

KR: Only one? Pink and black (they have to generally be together too)

ABOUT OH THE PAIN:

GENRE:

Historical Paranormal

BLURB:

What would you do if you had no expiration date?

Xander should have been discarded at birth due his small size. Who would have thought that he would grow up to become one of the most feared Greek Warriors in history? War after war he killed without discrimination, without mercy. As he lined Ares’ domain with the bodies of the dead, he captured the god’s favor.

But is it a gift he is offered or a curse?

EXCERPT:

Time passed, as it always did. Once again, things had become an uproar within Greece. Greeks were once again fighting amongst themselves over power and land. It seemed there was no limit to the greed that abounded. Those who already had plenty wanted even more. Those who had little or nothing continued on the same path with seemingly no escape from the poverty that consumed them.

Thanks to Nysa, they still lived comfortably. She was still employed as the head cook for the King. He had also, as her years of service and loyalty increased, increased his kindness to her. Xander had been serving for several years in his Uncle’s army as well, so he was also collecting pay from the King.

Xander was now seventeen and had been considered a man for a number of years already. Icarius had taken a wife last year, when he was Xander’s age. They were due to have a child soon. Icarius could not have been happier. Nor could Xander have been happier for his very best friend. Icarius had often thanked Xander for all of his help in learning the essential skills for combat, as he too, thanks to Xander, was employed with the King’s army.

Triton had taken on a more political role in Ithica and was getting ready to hand his army over to another. It was presumed that it would go to Triton’s son, Philokrates. He was a year younger than Xander and not even close to being as great of a warrior. He was old enough to command an army, but not skilled enough to lead them to defeat their enemies in battle.

It would be a huge injustice for the army to go to Philokrates. More than that, Xander would not be ordered about or led into battle by someone who could not defeat him if they were to ever battle, someone not even close to being as good as he was with a sword and spear. Another thing that Philokrates had that Xander did not was fear. Fear was one thing in battle that you could not have if you were going to succeed. One moment of hesitation against a fearless warrior would be your last.

Xander had to speak with his Uncle in hopes he could convince him to go against his own son.
